We are thrilled to share that our Chinese Debating Society achieved remarkable success at the 1st Zhizhi Cup Invitational Debate Competition, organized by the CUHK Cantonese Debating Team. After navigating a series of rigorous preliminary rounds, our team members, Kathy Chu, Katie Cheng, Stella Yung, Koyuki Shirane, Vienna Ng, and Christy Leong, battled all the way to the Grand Final, ultimately earning the title of 1st Runner-up.
The Grand Final took place on 13 September 2026 at the Yasumoto International Academic Park, CUHK. Facing off against a formidable team from TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College, our girls debated a highly meaningful motion: “For young people today, mastering oneself matters more than defeating others.”
Standing on the CUHK stage was both exhilarating and challenging. The motion demanded profound reflection on personal growth versus competitive drive in modern society. To construct a compelling stance, our team spent weeks gathering evidence, building rigorous logical frameworks, and sharpening their argument flow. On the day of the final, they brought that preparation to life through swift rebuttals, dynamic cross-examinations, and grounded teamwork.
While they narrowly missed the championship, finishing as 1st Runner-up in such a prestigious tournament is an achievement we cherish deeply. Beyond the trophy, this journey reinforced the true value of the motion itself—showing us that the process of refining our skills, handling pressure, and supporting one another matters far more than simply outscoring an opponent.
Congratulations!
We are fully committed to offering an all-round education enhanced with the Gospel spirit and the virtues of humility, respect, kindness and love.
