On 14 October, 31 Form 5 Chemistry students visited the Department of Chemistry at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for a guided tour entitled “Let There Be Light: The Chemistry of Luminescence.”
During the tour, students saw advanced scientific equipment, including a mass spectrometer (MS), an infrared (IR) spectrometer and a powerful microscope. This experience helped them connect classroom learning with scientific research and discover how chemists study substances.
The highlight was the opportunity to explore luminescent substances through hands-on activities. Observing their light-emitting properties sparked students’ curiosity and made the chemistry of luminescence both engaging and memorable.
The visit was enjoyable and fruitful, broadening students’ scientific horizons and deepening their appreciation of chemistry beyond the classroom. We sincerely thank HKU’s Department of Chemistry for providing this valuable learning opportunity and inspiring our students to continue exploring the fascinating world of science with great enthusiasm and an enquiring mind.
We are fully committed to offering an all-round education enhanced with the Gospel spirit and the virtues of humility, respect, kindness and love.
